Safety & Compliance Policy

Our commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices

Emergency Services

For life-threatening electrical emergencies, always contact emergency services (000) first. Do not attempt electrical repairs yourself.

1. Work Health & Safety (WHS) Commitment

Roxan Energy Services is committed to providing and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. We comply fully with:

  • Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) — national WHS legislation
  • State-based WHS laws — including NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and WA requirements
  • AS/NZS 1170 (Structural Design Actions) and related safety standards
  • Electrical Safety Standards — AS/NZS 3000 and electrical work codes

All personnel receive mandatory WHS induction and ongoing training before working on projects.

2. On-Site Safety Protocols

Pre-Work Site Assessment

Before commencing any electrical work, our team conducts a comprehensive site safety assessment, including hazard identification, electrical isolation procedures, and emergency access routes.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All personnel are required to wear appropriate PPE including safety helmets, high-visibility clothing, safety glasses, insulated gloves, and steel-capped boots. Site-specific PPE requirements are communicated before work begins.

Electrical Isolation & Lockout

All electrical circuits are tested, isolated, and locked off (LOTO) before work begins on energized or de-energized equipment to prevent accidental re-energization.

Work at Heights

All personnel working above 2 meters are trained in fall prevention and use certified fall arrest systems, harnesses, and anchor points.

Confined Spaces & Underground Work

Procedures are in place for safe entry into pits, conduits, and underground installations, including atmospheric testing and rescue provisions.

Site Cooperation & Coordination

On multi-contractor sites, our team coordinates with site management, principal contractors, and other trades to ensure safe work practices and prevent conflicts.

3. Electrical Safety Standards

AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Electrical Installations — Safety Standard)

All electrical installations must comply with the Australian Wiring Rules, covering design, installation, inspection, and testing of electrical systems for safety and performance.

AS 2067 (Earthing & Grounding)

Earthing systems are designed, installed, and tested to ensure safe dissipation of fault currents and protection of personnel and equipment.

AS 4777 (Grid-Connected Solar PV Systems)

Solar installations are designed and commissioned in compliance with grid connection standards to protect the electrical network and end users.

Electrical Metering Standards

All metering installations comply with DNSP standards and National Electricity Rules (NER) for safe and accurate energy measurement.

4. Incident Reporting & Rectification

Any workplace incident, hazard, near-miss, or injury is documented and reported immediately to management and relevant authorities (if required).

Incidents are investigated to identify root causes, and corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

All incidents involving electrical faults or safety breaches are reported to the relevant electrical licensing regulator and DNSP as required by law.

5. Employee & Contractor Competency

All personnel are assessed for competency before being assigned electrical work. This includes:

  • Current electrical licenses and qualifications verified
  • Annual WHS and electrical safety refresher training
  • Site-induction training for each project
  • First aid and CPR certification for relevant staff
  • Competency assessment for specialized work (confined spaces, work at heights, high-voltage systems)

6. Equipment & Tools

All tools and equipment are maintained in safe working order and regularly inspected. This includes:

  • Electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers) calibrated annually
  • Power tools tested and tagged as required
  • Ladders and access equipment inspected before each use
  • Personal protective equipment replaced when damaged
  • Safety equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers) checked and restocked

7. Weather & Environmental Conditions

Outdoor Electrical Work: Work is postponed or modified in adverse conditions (heavy rain, lightning, extreme heat) that may increase electrical hazards.

Hot Work (Welding, Grinding): Hot work permits are obtained where required, and fire watch procedures are implemented.

Excavation Safety: Before excavating near underground services, we contact Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) and confirm the location and isolation of all utilities.

8. Customer Site Responsibilities

While Roxan Energy maintains full responsibility for on-site safety, we request customers to:

  • Provide safe access to the work area
  • Inform us of any hazards (asbestos, environmental contamination, pets, etc.)
  • Restrict access to work areas by unauthorized personnel, especially children
  • Follow emergency procedures outlined by our team
  • Report any safety concerns immediately

9. Emergency Response

Medical Emergency (Electrocution, Injury)

Call 000 immediately. Our team is trained in first aid and CPR. Do not touch the victim if they are in contact with live electrical circuits.

Electrical Fire

Evacuate the area and call 000. Use Class C fire extinguishers only. Never use water on an electrical fire.

Major Incident or Safety Breach

All major incidents are reported to management, relevant authorities, and the customer within 24 hours. Work may be suspended pending investigation.

10. Continuous Improvement

We are committed to continuous improvement in safety practices through:

  • Regular safety audits and reviews
  • Industry updates and best practice adoption
  • Employee safety feedback and suggestions
  • Post-project safety reviews
  • Participation in industry safety initiatives
